TIME IN A BOTTLE

Perhaps one of my favorite songs from the 1970s that shaped my thinking was Jim Croce’s, “Time in a Bottle.”?Although it was written to capture his sentiments around spending time with those he loved, there is another gem in the middle of the song:
“But there never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do once you find them.”
Isn’t that the truth?! As we discover the things that mean the most to us in our lives, we often don’t seem to have enough time to pursue those dreams and ideals. We don't take breaks from our busy lives to visit beautiful places with loved ones. I'm guilty of this myself and recently forced myself to push?work aside to visit the Caribbean (pictured above) with my daughter, a special place for us.?
Why? Because there is ‘always tomorrow" and mundane tasks seem to get in the way of making quick decisions that can lead to accomplishing big things.
In my book, Cowgirl Power,?I have a section that says, ‘Don’t dally around—be decisive.’ This is where I talk about the importance of making decisions quickly and moving on. Perhaps the deadliest sin is to allow ourselves to agonize over decisions for weeks and months, ultimately missing opportunities.?
For example, in my sixteen-year relationship working with Dell, the mantra was to get things 80% right and execute fast before the market dynamics changed. If you wait to get that last 20% perfect, you will set yourself up to lose.?
Always default toward action. You can iterate and?improve?tomorrow. What you get done today is what counts. We really don’t have any time to waste.?

When you find the things you truly love and want to do, run toward them with action and purpose now. Even if it ain’t perfect, don’t worry. You will be one step closer to the big idea, the big mission and the big purpose and people that make a difference in your life.?
Savoring time
