We recently prepared a time-blocking and productivity training for one of our clients. This is an instrumental skill to work on and develop, and it can make a world of difference in how you plan out your work day and how it takes you to get your work done.?
The first point to know about is the Availability-Misweighing Bias. We tend to set aside longer and more difficult projects in exchange for shorter, easier tasks. We do this because accomplishing the shorter, easier tasks first will give us a faster serotonin boost, than sitting down for a lengthy project.?
A good way to try to prevent this and accomplish your longer and more difficult work is by prioritizing those projects and having them readily available.?
The Pareto Principle states that we will create 80% of our results from 20% of our work, meaning most of your progress will come from 20% of your work. It is important to know which tasks are most important and prioritize them to increase your productivity.?
A very important point we touched on in the training is multitasking. Multitasking is not beneficial to your productivity. Your brain can’t properly concentrate on multiple tasks at once. Pick one to do first, and you will be more successful than if you keep moving back and forth between things.?

Another key lesson is about time blocking. Planning your days ahead of time, and setting certain times to work on specific tasks will help you focus on what work to do and when. This includes planning all your breaks.?
When you use time blocking as a productivity technique you also learn how long it actually takes for you to work on certain things, so you can be better prepared for how much to dedicate to specific work.?
Learning how to time block, and sticking to your planned schedule will help you get your work done. Just make sure you continuously communicate with your team about when you are focused on certain types of work, that way you can avoid interruptions and getting distracted.?
