TikTok's New Features you need to look out for in 2021

This may come as no surprise to many, but TikTok was the most downloaded app of 2020. The  social media giant  now rivals the likes of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. It’s easy to see why  - the app has everything: clever comedy, memes, tutorials, challenges, commentary and of course, dances. 

Whether you’re a fan of it or not, the app is impossible to miss as its videos are reposted everywhere imaginable.  Following the success of such a year, it’s no surprise that TikTok’s unveiled some interesting new features!

Super Likes

We have all by now seen and used the classic "like button", whether it be a "Favourite" on Twitter, a "Kudo" on Strava or a "Like" on Instagram & Facebook. This engagement is not only a form of validation but also allows you to expand the reach of your content thanks to clever algorithms. Now,  TikTok has come up with a new way of appreciating a post "The Super Like".

But what makes a like ‘Super’? Well TikTok says this new feature creates a  'reaction on another level' by adding an extra layer to the familiar double tap. Previously, a standard like would simply colour the heart symbol with a plain animation. But with this new feature, advertisers will be able to change the standard like with  a custom overlay that will appear over the screen with hearts and include the company’s logo.

What are the benefits of this all new Super Like? As mentioned before, TikTok expects this to highly increase user engagement with your posts. Not only that, it'll also increase brand awareness by showcasing  your logo over the whole screen.

Voting Stickers

Who here has never answered a poll on a social media platform? For those who exclusively used TikTok your answer is about to change with an  incoming  feature called Voting Stickers! As you’ve  probably seen, platforms like Twitter, Instagram & Facebook have already had this feature for a while now. TikTok might be late to the party but it's a feature that will be really welcome on the app. 

So how will it work? To be honest, more or less like on all the other platforms. Advertisers ask a question and provide two answers. Users will then get to choose which one they want to vote for and, if they decide to vote, they'll be able to see the % result. The account will be able to see who voted for what and the overall results.

This will only increase engagement and help businesses. The voting sticker will allow users to get their say, feel valued and give you as an advertiser valuable feedback on your product or service. So I'd called that a win win!

Donation Stickers

Now for the last features of this article, the Donation Sticker. This one is quite self explanatory. We’ve  already seen other platforms introduce this sticker, so it's no surprise TikTok have decided to launch a version of their own.

Simple but effective, this feature will work like a simple donation pop-up. Once you select the sticker, you’ll  get the option to choose from a list of non-profit organisations. When incorporated into an Ad, users will be able to click, choose a cash amount, and donate. The users will be able to pay using PayPal, Apple Pay or Credit Card, meaning there should be a payment method for everyone.
