1/5. TikTok adds new monetisation streams for creators
TikTok has launched the Creativity Program, which will offer creators more monetisation streams. The Program includes the Creator Effects funding program, which rewards creators for top performing AR filters they have created. Creators can join the Program if they are based in the UK, France or the US, and revenue will not be re-routed from ad money.?
Hot take: TikTok has always struggled to satisfy creators with monetisation streams. While the new Creativity Program will satisfy a certain portion of creators—those with the skills to create AR filters—there will still be many left dissatisfied. However, it does make sense to reward creators who are making filters and effects that will keep people entertained on the platform.
2/5. Snapchat’s back, baby!??
Snapchat slipped off the map slightly in the past few years, but it’s having a big resurgence in 2023. With new Snapchat updates for users, brands, and creators, the platform is becoming a more interesting and engaging place for everyone. Active users are up, Spotlight views are up, and creator monetisation is beaming. Check out our blog for more!
3/5. Montana bans TikTok on personal devices
Continuing the US-TikTok-Ban-Saga, Montana has become the first state to ban the platform on personal devices. The legislation makes it illegal for app stores to offer TikTok, however it does not prevent those who already have the app from using it. App stores offering the platform can face a $10,000 fine for offering access.?
Hot take: To summarise, if you live in Montana (or any state that is considering a complete TikTok ban), and have the platform downloaded, your usage of the platform will be unaffected. In addition, there's no rules against brands targeting users from states where the ban is in effect. Seems sort of pointless to have the ban in place, right?

4/5. ChatGPT app launches on iOS
OpenAI has finally announced the launch of an official ChatGPT app, available on iOS devices. The new ChatGPT app will be free to use, free from ads, and will allow for voice input. The only downside: it will initially be limited to U.S. users at launch. When using the new ChatGPT app, your usage history will automatically sync between devices, allowing you to access anything you may have previously searched on the web interface or the mobile app.
5/5. Influencer hacks the loneliness epidemic with AI
Influencer Caryn Marjorie has hacked loneliness by creating an AI version of herself that people can date for $1 a minute. Caryn trained an AI voice bot using her video content, and the final CarynAI reportedly raked in over $70,000 in the first week.
Hot take: This could be the start of influencers creating AI versions of themselves to interact with fans or even as far as to create branded content. It would help build creator loyalty as fans would feel closer to their favourite creators. However, given the difficulties of training AI, and trusting users not to abuse the service, we think it will be a while before the AI-ification of influencers takes off.
