Unless you've spent the last month living under a rock, you've probably heard about the potential TikTok ban working its way through Congress. Banning a massive platform like TikTok would be unprecedented, but it looks like a real possibility.
If you've been on TikTok recently, you've probably seen their recent ads imploring users to protest the ban. Now, they're taking things a step further.
TikTok is launching a new $2.1 million TV ad campaign targeting states with vulnerable senators in the upcoming election. These ads aim to showcase how TikTok benefits its over 150 million American users.
Will it be enough? It's hard to say. Whether or not you believe that TikTok is a genuine security risk, the ban has widespread bipartisan support in Congress. We're not in the business of making political predictions, but it's clear that TikTok could be in some real trouble.
While running this new ad campaign may sway a few people, it's hard to see it really moving the needle in any significant way. Of course, politics is always unpredictable, so we think there's a good chance that TikTok will hang on after all.
