Say it isn’t so…
Okay, so TikTok isn’t banned (yet), but it is under a lot of scrutiny from the government. The platform is now in the middle of a legal battle with Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL).?
Why, you may ask? The senator’s concerns surround data collection and the app’s links to the Chinese government. Rubio stated:
“This isn’t about creative videos - this is about an app that is collecting data on tens of millions of American children and adults every day.”
Senator Rubio has proposed a bill that calls for TikTok to be shut down entirely in the U.S. in an effort to eliminate the risk of the platform acting as a surveillance device for Chinese spies. The Chinese-owned app has been the topic of discussion for many government leaders, including former President Donald Trump, who also proposed the platform be shut down in the U.S.?
If the bill passes, what do you think will happen? Will it reshape the direction of social media or be just another platform left to bite the dust? Let us know your thoughts by responding to this email or continuing the conversation on Twitter.

1 年It most definitely will reshape the direction of social media. With the increase in cybersecurity awareness, we are already seeing our government and American corporations banning the platform on company issued devices. The question is, will any of the other platforms adopt some of what TikTok was and provided? Or will a new US-based platform sprout up as a replacement?
