Tik Tok Corporate: Free Organic Reach

Summary

1) Free Organic Reach (Following/FYP)

2) Mistake creating IG videos for Tik Tok (#’s, stories, stickers)

 1) Free Organic Reach (Following/FYP)

The biggest advantage that #business owners can take advantage of right now is the free organic reach on #TikTok. If you pay for ads on #Facebook, #Instagram, #YouTube , #LinkedIn or even #Google, Tik Tok can provide this same reach for free. How is this possible?

The way that the platform is designed is you have two feeds. Instead of having one main feed for your content (think Facebook, Instagram) you have two feeds that constantly collects data for you and you can switch between them seamlessly. The creators you follow, their content will be under the “following” side of your account. If you are curious (like a lot of us) and want to spend some time on the “For You” page (FYP) you can switch to this feed. This is where the magic happens. Tik Tok’s #algorithm will input anyone from around the world’s content in your #FYP and lets the people who watch it, decide if it worth distributing to larger groups of people. Therefore the content is heavily based on the creative or your ability to keep attention through metrics (which is very easy to understand and carry out – I will explain this in detail in my next post). I have one video that has been seen by +500k people and i wasn't even trying.

So can you see how quickly, your content that you create, can be put in front of large groups of people, based off the community itself. The big advantage you have is that this is all for free and you don’t have to pay for “reach” like traditional social media platforms such as FB, IG, YT, Pinterest.

 2) Mistake creating IG videos for Tik Tok (#’s, stories, stickers)

The biggest mistake business owners can make when creating a Tik Tok account is to make Instagram stories and use stickers or hashtags. Tik Tok has all this functionality but from being on the #platform for 4 years (2 years musica.ly, 2 years Tik Tok) and seeing what actually works, these metrics are not fundamental to the algorithm pushing your content out to larger groups of people.

It is currently the beginning of September 2020 and I remember back in September 2019 when I was beginning to post more regularly on a weekly basis.  The content was very raw and in fact I was heavily committed to Instagram at the time. I was doing this exact thing – treating Tik Tok posts very much like Instagram stories.  So I get it and I understand why this comes intuitively. However Tik Tok is very low production quality in terms of video but high quality in terms of video editing and transitioning. This is mainly due to the inbuilt software that the app has (don’t even talk to me about Instagram #reels, that is the clunkiest video editing #software to navigate). Tik Tok is very different in its own right and takes time to understand. Coming back to #September2020, I am posting 3 videos a day. Mainly because I enjoy the platform and community engagement but also because it takes me less than 30 mins to do this.

Think about when the TV was first introduced (at scale) in the #1940’s and the radio was THE method of communication to large groups of people. All of a sudden there was this new medium grabbing attention of consumers and at the very least a younger generation. This is what Tik Tok is to your future customers and consumers. Still continue to do Facebook, Instagram, YouTube etc (the radio didn’t go away) however the free branding that Tik Tok is providing right now is worth spending at least 10% of your overall marketing time. At the very least do it to understand the minds of the future leaders. Not because it is a young platform but because it another way to communicate.

Imagine creating a TV #commercial that involved a person reading a script and not looking up once at the camera monitor. Creating a #radio commercial for TV. This is where business owners will make the mistake when they first join Tik Tok and start creating content. Don’t get caught by either doing nothing or being paralyzed from what your clients or #professional colleagues think. It is way beyond a teenage dancing app and thousands if not millions of businesses are figuring this out and using it to their advantage. Create a Tik Tok account TODAY and create videos daily. Ask your son or daughter what trending songs and going viral right now and start there by overlaying your brand or business over the top. Before long Tik Tok and the #community will push your brand in front of thousands if not millions of people for free.

the only concern would be the value / credence you giveto the concerns about the security of the platform and the information / data harvesting that occurs from it and the use to which that can be put and by whom

I can’t see a reason for business wouldn’t use the platform, given the low level of risk/ cost for the potential. Fear would be the only reason - disguised as ‘it’s not worth it’ ‘it’s not a business platform’ etc etc - which is the same reason people didn’t jump into Facebook or other platforms, and look at business now. Early adaptors get market share.
