What was most valuable to Julissa Ramirez ’09, MS ’11 (electrical mechanical engineering technology, manufacturing and mechanical systems integration) from her RIT experience? “Staying connected to the wonderful people that I met, and cultivating that network over time.”

Julissa is a technical program manager at Google, in the Cloud Machine Learning Hardware team. Originally from the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City, Julissa has lived in Silicon Valley for the last nine years since graduating from RIT. Before Google, Julissa also worked for Northrop Grumman and Intel.

“When you’re interviewing for different roles, make sure that you interview the company, team, and manager as well,” Julissa says, sharing her #TigerWisdom with the Class of 2020. “It is important for you to have a list of what you’re looking for and if that company meets those requirements.”

The best professional advice Julissa received during her career was from one of her mentors: a comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there. “If you’re looking for growth in your career, it is important to get comfortable with getting uncomfortable. That means moving across the country for an amazing opportunity, working on a new technology, or even as simple as reaching out for help.”
