Tid-Bit Tuesday: Jug'? Proof

Tid-Bit Tuesday: Jug' Proof

According to Channel 13 New, Houston, jugging was up 13% in 2022, as compared to the previous year.

What is jugging??Jugging is when a criminal follows someone from one location to another to rob them or break into their vehicle.?

There were 720 reported jugging’s in Houston in 2021.?This number rose to 812 cases in 2022.

A significant number of cases were thieves following their victims from a banking location and robbing them or breaking into their vehicles, hoping to find cash.

So what can you do to help prevent yourself from being or becoming a victim of jugging?

  • Pay attention to those around you.?This seems simple and obvious.?But surveillance camera footage shows a number of victims who appear oblivious to what is going on around them, as they enter and exit banking institutions.
  • Avoid exterior ATM machines.?As “inconvenient” as it may feel, enter the bank to obtain cash.?The inconvenience of a smashed window or worse – personal injury far outweighs a little extra time in entering the bank for a safer transaction.
  • The above said, conceal your cash.?Do not walk in view of windows or glass doors, when placing cash into your pockets or purses.?Certainly do not exit a bank, while stowing away your cash in view of the public.?
  • ?“Watch your six.”?As you leave the bank, look around to see who may be standing around or sitting in their vehicle, watching you.?Drive away and watch behind you.?If you suspect someone is following you, DO NOT go home.?Change your route and continue to watch. ?Stay moving. ?If it becomes evident the person is following, contact 911 and explain to the dispatcher your location and what is taking place.?
  • Never-ever-ever leave bags, backpacks, cases or luggage in plain view in your vehicle.?Throwing a blanket or cover over these items only increases the curiosity of a crook.?

Not just a bank. I put my wallet/cash away before exiting any establishment. Someone can grab your wallet/cash and run as you step outside distracted.
