THY Negotiating The Purchase Of 225 New Boeing Aircraft.

Turkish Airlines is progressing in its negotiations with Boeing for 150 737 MAX narrow-body jets and 75 widebody 787 planes. However, the final decision is pending due to engine price negotiations with CFM International (CFM) , the sole engine supplier for the 737 MAX. Chairman Ahmet Bolat mentioned that while talks with Boeing are advancing, Airbus remains a competitor for the order. The airline had previously announced negotiations with both manufacturers for 235 aircraft to expand its fleet, following an order for 355 jets from Airbus in December.

Bolat highlighted that the final decision would depend on securing better pricing for CFM's LEAP engines and favorable production slots. Turkish Airlines has made a counterproposal to CFM and is awaiting a response. With Airbus, the airline has the flexibility to choose engines from either CFM or Pratt & Whitney.

Despite Boeing's current safety and production challenges, Bolat expressed confidence in Boeing's ability to address these issues. Turkish Airlines aims to mitigate risks by diversifying its fleet with aircraft from both manufacturers. The airline plans to expand its fleet from 455 to 810 planes over the next decade, considering factors like pricing, selling conditions, and engine options in its final decision.
