Thursday Design Waves - 04 July, 2024

??Hello there,

Welcome to issue #2 of Thursday Design Waves, where I share insights and the latest news in graphic design and branding on my recent discoveries and experiences.

1. A powerful Approach?? :

Jose Rosado, in his recent newsletter, shares his experience with a client who tried every possible method to increase sales but couldn't. The client hired copywriters and website designers, but nothing significantly boosted sales.

However, when he met Jose, his sales started to increase, and he became a happy client??.

The secret lay in the entire process: from content, CTA, and landing pages to lead magnets and sales calls. Doing these daily was the right direction, but the problem was that they were based on issues his audience didn't have.

They were so focused on getting sales that they forgot what truly matters: solving problems, painful ones???

It might seem simplistic, but Jose emphasizes that this is a very powerful approach??

In conclusion, Jose states that this is the real secret. His five pointers shared earlier, along with this one, when practiced every day, are a surefire way to increase sales??.

2. New Device Update?? :

There's nothing better than having a more accurate cursor when you're drawing—it's such a game changer.

So if you're a calligrapher or an illustrator, this one is surely for you.

Apple's new M4 iPad is a blessing, as Will Paterson mentions in his recent YouTube video.

What really stands out, apart from the technical specs, is the Apple Pencil Pro. It now comes with cool features like:

a. Squeeze Function to change colors, line width, etc.??

b. Double Tap button to switch tools????

c. And the mind-blowing ?? Barrel Roll, which helps angle the pen in certain ways depending on how you use it.

Illustrations and calligraphy on this device will reach new levels. However, several applications are yet to fully leverage these new features, which they surely will in the near future.

If you're a packaging design lover like me, I'm certain you'll also appreciate the latest packaging designs?????

Check out the full Will Paterson's video here.

3. Poly Mono?? :

Out of many recently launched typefaces, this particular font caught my eye due to its unique approach. ??

This font was created by Miami-based designer and creative director Andrew Bellamy of Otherwhere Collective, who describes it as "the world's first mega-ligature multi-color geometric shape game font." ?????

Poly Mono is a streamlined, colorful font composed entirely of shapes. This font encourages designers to be playful and instinctive rather than coldly logical. ?

This innovative font assigns each key a shape rather than a letter. Repeatedly typing the same key cycles through different colors and rotations of that shape. Changing keys, meanwhile, moves to the next perfectly tiled shape. ??

And that's not all—there's much more to it!

The font is currently free to download, and I have tried it myself. So download, play, make, type, jump, and explore to your heart's content! ??

Check out to know more about Poly Mono here.

4. Swiss Design?? :

I was going through my Instagram feed and came across a reel by Two Studio that caught my eye ??.

It was a time when detailed illustrative layouts were in demand, but people craved more order and structure in their lives after World War II ??, leading to the rise of a new design style that became a major force during the 1950s ???

What made this design style not just a temporary trend but a significant influence was its elimination of unnecessary details ??, focusing on the function of a page rather than its beauty ??.

It replaced illustrations with objective photography ?? and used a grid system to ensure alignment, balance, and order ??.

Asymmetric layouts and sans serif typefaces like Helvetica and Univers defined its style ??

This minimalistic approach to design is called Swiss Design or the International Typographic Style ?

Check out Two Studio's Instagram reel here.

5. Personal Branding??- Part 1/3 :

In his recent YouTube video, Chris Do starts off by saying that when you’re buying something, some of you want to have a clear business outcome, and some of you want to feel like you belong.

So, it's less about buying and more about who you become in the process and the vote that you cast with your money

Then he goes on to say that we do this because we want to support people, companies, and ideas that reflect who we are and how we see ourselves. This forms a significant part of our identity.

Isn't that amazing? ??

I had to read it twice and really reflect to grasp the depth of what he was saying, and I found it insightful??

He mentions that he likes to visit Apple Stores every now and then just to watch the people and try out their devices. One thing he noticed was that he was never sold anything, which he feels is such an unusual experience. The staff simply greet you with "Hi, do you need help?" and that’s it.

Apart from what was shared, he believes there is another reason why their volume of business is huge compared to any of their competitors, and that is... To be continued

That's a wrap! I'm eager to hear your thoughts. What did you enjoy the most? What would you like to see more or less of? Feel free to reply to this article. Additionally, if you have anything interesting to share, I'm all ears.

?? Have a fantastic week, and thank you for your time and trust.

Best regards,

Shashank K S
