Bob Dylan: On the Road
'I had ambitions to set out and find, like an odyssey… I was born very far from where I’m supposed to be, and so, I’m on my way home.'
– Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan's landscape paintings are exhibited for the first time at?Songs of the Open Road.?Centring on rural scenes, with vast skies and luscious leafy fields seen as if from the perspective of a car, these works are inspired?by Jack Kerouac's seminal novel,?On the Road. Though absent of figures, there is an undeniable humanity and contentment imbued within them, whether in an isolated spot by the water, or at the edge of a flowering field. Where his previous works focused on bridges and highways as signifiers of freedom, these new works represent the peace and tranquillity that comes with change.
Also on display are a new set of watercolours that expand the existing?Route 66 series. These develop themes of Americana, previously explored in the Beaten Path series. Dylan’s intricately rendered paintings draw our attention to the dormant beauty in otherwise overlooked locations that form the backdrop of daily life.
