3 weeks ago, I joined a team of Oil & Gas industry stakeholders and experts in Portharcourt for a 2 day brainstorming session spotlighting the recently approved National Oil and Gas policies - powered by Facility for Oil Sector Tranformation (FOSTER).
The engagement, which had representatives from organized Labor, Civil Society Organizations, DPR and the Media, split into 2 groups (Oil and Gas groups) for specificity of purpose and in the end, both groups adopted my advocacy action plan - a road map to engage government on key issues that affect the industry, policy formulation process and the host community.
Many of you do not know this, but I am a strategic member of AFRITAL, a CSO that is charged with raising responsible leaders for the continent and most of our activities include demanding Transparency and Accountability. Our founder, Dr. Brown Ogbeifun (the God-father), is an Oil sector veteran who worked closely with a few GMDs and was NUPENG President many years back and was the convener of the event.
You can see a detailed update on the CSO roundtable at afrital.org or at kilometre51 to understand how our actions plan to curb oil sector inefficiencies and sabotage, how we intend to influence policies for the new gas industry and the PIB and how we will force the hand of government to address issues like the black sooth that fills the air in Portharcourt for instance.
