Throwback Thursday: Charles River Dam (1974)

In 1974, J.F. White took on a monumental $35 million project that became a cornerstone for our company – the Charles River Dam. This was the largest project we had ever undertaken at the time.

Key features included:

  • A state-of-the-art pumping station.
  • Three navigational locks.
  • An overhead enclosed walkway connecting stair towers, the pump station, and control stations for operating the locks.
  • The MDC Police boat facility at the south end of the walkway.
  • An on-grade pedestrian crossing between Boston and Charlestown.

The project was designed and constructed under the supervision of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in collaboration with the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC).

This project not only demonstrated our capability to handle large-scale infrastructure but also solidified our reputation in the industry.
