Through The Goggles: Boss Hat’s FPV Musings “You Got Your Chocolate in My Peanut Butter!”; A Tale Of Two Events
I have had some extra time on my hands lately, so I got a chance to watch the FPVLive.tv broadcast of the 2016 Multi GP 2B Florida Finals (not ALL five hours, but a good portion) and I must say I was impressed. Thank you to Nelson of Gravity Goons for sending me this link. The production was solid; Todd Wahl did the majority of the M.C. work, with Joe Scully doing the race commentary. They were squared away, from graphics, to on-screen stats, to multiple FPV camera feeds (labeled with pilots handles), they moved the event forward swiftly, and smoothly.
There was no real “dead air” time. You can really see that FPVLive.tv has learned from their previous experience, and know how to deliver a watchable live stream. To keep the live streaming viewers involved, they even offered a giveaway (A Vortex, if I remember) to people who promoted the event on social media, while it was being broadcast, to help build viewership.
This is where ALL parties need to watch what the others are doing, and learn. Some people are talented at production, some people are talented at promotion. Some groups have the pull of large sponsors; some groups are locked in when it comes to running, and producing, a live, “televised” event. When these groups come together, some amazing things can happen.
If you take FPVLive.tv’s “chocolate” and dunk it into DR1’s “Peanut Butter”, you get something magical. When you have major sponsors and a talented production group, you get a high quality event that can appeal to a general audience. That means more exposure, more major sponsors, and (most importantly) more people wanting to get involved in FPV. That is a “Reese’s Cup” that everyone will want to take a bite out of!
