Thriving Together: Turning Family Time into Quality Time

Let's Make Family Time More Productive and Fun

Hey there, Families!

You may have heard about family meetings but aren’t quite sure where to start. Don’t worry! That’s what we’re diving into this month.?

Picture this: your family sitting around the kitchen table problem-solving, bonding together, and sharing a laugh. That’s what family meetings are all about.

Why Now is the Perfect Time to Start:

With warmer weather on the horizon and activities picking up, there's no better time to gather your crew and kickstart your family meetings. It’s a chance to connect, plan adventures, and tackle any challenges as a team.

How to Introduce Family Meetings:

Start ahead of time by chatting with your kids about the idea. Let them know that family meetings are a way to share ideas, solve problems together, and that their ideas and opinions matter. No nagging, just open conversation, and compromise.

The Family Huddle Agenda:

  1. Open Meeting: Kick things off with a ritual to set a positive tone.?
  2. Appreciations: Spread the love! Take turns giving shoutouts for awesome stuff family members did during the week.
  3. Week in Review: Time for a little reflection. What went well? What could've been better? Let's learn and grow together.
  4. Problem-Solving: Got a snag to untangle? Bring it to the table, and brainstorm solutions as a team.
  5. Weekly Planning: From upcoming events to chores, get organized for the week (or month) ahead. Everyone’s got a role to play!
  6. Wrap it up: Have a fun activity or spend some quality time bonding

6 Habits for Success:

  1. Setting Ground Rules: Keep it respectful and fun.
  2. Living Your Values: Practice what you preach.
  3. Using "I" Statements: Express yourself, but keep calm.
  4. Sharing Leadership: Let the kids take the wheel sometimes.
  5. Flexibility: Roll with the punches, and keep it real.
  6. Consensus Building: You’re all in this together.

Try it out this month ahead and see how it goes.?

Remember you can always make changes, see what’s working and what’s not.?

Let me know how it goes!?

Cheers,

Mindy

My husband and I were just talking about doing family counsels together. And we do counsel eith our kids one on one occasionally. Family meetings are great...impromptu or planned

As adults sometimes my sisters & I still have family meetings with my father. It's a great forum for problem solving & coming to consensus.
