Thriving Together: Meet Laurie Gregorio

Thriving Together: Meet Laurie Gregorio

Leveraging diverse perspectives allows us to develop better overall solutions to the problems we face. In this series, we take time to recognize our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and the work they do to create an environment where all employees can thrive. In each series post, we will be highlighting a member nominated by an ERG.

Tell us about your role at Mass General Brigham and your role within the ERG you were nominated by.

As Manager of Newton-Wellesley Hospital Volunteer Services, I oversee the program, help develop volunteer opportunities and support volunteers to have meaningful experiences serving at the hospital. For the Mass General Brigham Disability Employee Inclusion Alliance, I am the Community Chair. Our goals are to establish stronger relationships with people and organizations in the disability community to help improve services at Mass General Brigham, including coordination and continuity of care, as well as determining how business practices impact our disabled community. We also seek out volunteer opportunities and attend community events that focus on the disabled community.

?

How has this ERG positively impacted you?

As a person with a physical disability, I have been inspired to see the ways in which this community is pulling together with the common goals of fostering inclusivity, advocating for improving opportunities for employees with disabilities, minimizing bias and building relationships with one another. We have some wonderfully dedicated people in our group, and I am excited to see how the ERG will continue to grow and make a positive impact on all current and future employees with disabilities throughout the system.

?

What has been your favorite experience while participating in this ERG and what are you looking forward to in the next few months??

My favorite experience was the public launch of the ERG last October. As we are a newer ERG, this was the first time that we were able to come together in person and meet colleagues with disabilities and allies from across the system. Great connections were made, and it set a foundation that continues to carry us forward in our goals. I look forward to having future opportunities for our group to come together and build positive relationships as we continue to work toward our vision that Mass General Brigham will be an employer of choice for all employees with apparent and non-apparent disabilities.

It's great to see that ERG members are coming together, physically! Remote and virtual are great, and often necessary, but it's hard to beat the engagement that face-to-face events create.
