Thriving Together: Meet Hanmeng Zhang

Leveraging diverse perspectives allows us to develop better overall solutions to the problems we face. In this series, we take time to recognize our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and the work they do to create an environment where all employees can thrive. In each series post, we will be highlighting a member nominated by an ERG.

Tell us about your role at Mass General Brigham and your role within the ERG you were nominated by.

At Massachusetts Eye and Ear , I’m a research fellow with the Ocular Genomics Institute . The institute aims to translate genomic medicine into precision ophthalmic care for patients with inherited eye disorders.

In the Chinese Scientists and Staff Association (CSSA), I serve as the Vice President of the Secretary General, Entertainment, and Cultural Committee. As VP, I play a role in overseeing administrative functions, coordinating entertainment initiatives, and promoting cultural engagement within the organization. Additionally, my nomination by the ERG underscores my commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, where I actively contribute to shaping policies and programs that reflect our collective values and aspirations.

How has this ERG positively impacted you?

The ERG has been a transformative force in my professional journey, offering a supportive community and valuable resources. Through networking events and mentorship programs, I've expanded my professional circle and gained insights that have enhanced my skills and confidence. The ERG's commitment to diversity and inclusion aligns with my values, empowering me to contribute meaningfully to an inclusive workplace culture. This positive impact extends beyond my career, fostering personal growth and a sense of belonging within the organization.

What has been your favorite experience while participating in this ERG and what are you looking forward to in the next few months??

My favorite ERG experience has been collaborating with other organizations to learn and communicate about Asian culture. The vibrant exchange of ideas and traditions enriched my perspective and fostered a sense of unity. In the coming months, I look forward to expanding these collaborative efforts, deepening cultural understanding, and creating more impactful initiatives that promote diversity and inclusivity by organizing the Spring Festival Gala. The prospect of furthering our collective goals excites me as we work towards a more connected and harmonious workplace.
