Thriving With My Own Way: 5 Ways to Adapt in Bangkit
Adaptability is one of the abilities that humans need. Adjusting to a new environment with unfamiliar colleagues and diverse modes of communication could be challenging for some of us, especially the ones who don't have good adaptability skills. Each individual has their own pace for adapting, but what if we must adapt fast??
Bangkit is a fast-paced program that requires its cohorts to have quick adaptability skills. From my perspective, Bangkit is one of the challenges I must conquer.?
How can I survive this far? I'll try to explain it using the "5 Ways of Adaptability" method.
Ways of Interacting
Interacting with new individuals with different personalities tends to be difficult, especially if we do it online. I tend to like doing the text way more because I am nervous speaking in a group of new people. For example, most of the time, I keep silent even though, let's say, the mentor wants us to answer something. But, in the end, I will feel bad that I didn't answer him. It's something that I need to work on more. However, Bangkit pushes us to interact more and create connections through the Discord channel based on our interests. We are free to express ourselves there, with a reminder that we have to behave. Going out of my comfort zone is not easy, but it's worth trying.
Ways of Achieving
Before joining Bangkit, I already have interests in the Artificial Intelligence field. When I applied for Bangkit, I had 1 goal, to gain new knowledge as much as possible, no matter how hard it could be. At first, I didn't find it easy, because I didn't expect the heavy pressure and short schedule. With my messy time management, it was not easy. However, knowing others' progress helps a lot. I don't like to be left behind, therefore, knowing my friends' or other cohort's progress helps me to be on track until now.

Ways of Learning
Personally, I am familiar with independent study. We study by ourselves with our own available time as long it's according to the specified schedule. However, I didn't expect that the course would have that many modules, some of which are videos with long duration. I have to change my learning pace a bit so that I could finish my mandatory courses and other responsibilities. I set my personal schedule according to the number of modules. I could do a total of 3 modules at max in a day. I have done this method for these past weeks. It works perfectly for me!
Ways of Working
To make my work more efficient, I set my own working hours. As I am not that much of a morning person, my work starts from 1 pm until 12 am. Those 11 hours consist of courses, homework, and other projects. How can I know which one needs to do first? I make a priority list, based on the deadline and each task's difficulty level. I also like to change the ambiance sometimes. It is monotonous if I do my work at home all the time. Therefore, I prefer to work outside sometimes, especially if the task requires a good mood.?
Ways of Thinking
Before Bangkit, I always had a fixed mindset. For example, if I was offered a project and knew someone could do it better than me, I won't do it. I backed down because I was scared I couldn't manage the expectations. Then, we had a session about a growth mindset. This mindset encourages us to take up more challenges and not be afraid of every possible outcome. Implementing a growth mindset makes a huge difference for me. Making mistakes doesn't scare me anymore. I am willing to learn from my mistakes. The most important thing is believing in yourself. If you can't, who will??
