Thriving with Multiple Sclerosis
I am 60 years old and was diagnosed with Secondary Progressive MS in 2009.
My wife Liz, kids, extended family and so many friends, including those I've met through the executive search business, have helped and encouraged me in so many ways over the years, I would like to thank you again for all you’ve done and update you on my condition.
I am thriving with MS.
We all have our challenges in life, some seen and some unseen. Life obstacles can be just that, obstacles or we can embrace the challenge as an opportunity to improve. For many reasons, I chose the latter from the beginning of my MS journey, focusing on positive thoughts, body, mind, and soul.
Thanks to my MS challenge I am a healthier and hopefully better person today.
Many know my left leg has atrophied due to MS and I walk with a limp. I promised myself this would not stop me from living my life, instead, I sought ways to thrive.
My update:
Body
I recently had an MRI, the first since 2011 and the results showed no new lesions. My MS is stable – Great News!
I continue my gluten and Dairy free diet
I get cyro treatments at least 2 times a week
I started swimming a mile on average once a week a few years ago and this morning swam mile #230 (I suggest swimming to all - great exercise)
I work out as often as I can
I play golf and have included a picture of my first Hole in 1 from four days ago - #9, par three at Vaaler in Blanco, TX. The white golf ball is my golf partner’s and his shot was much more dramatic than mine, however, I’ll take the HN1 any day.
I have had 3 stem cell treatments through Celltex in Mexico and have experienced the positive effects of using increased amounts of my own MSC stem cells to help with autoimmune recovery. My energy level increased to almost normal from very fatigued after my first injections in 2013 and have remained in that state since. I am a stem cell proponent and am happy that with the help of many of my MS friends in Texas, the Texas legislature passed HB810 this summer, getting us closer to full stem cell treatments in Texas. This is good news for any dealing with an autoimmune disease. I love that my state, of which I am very proud is leading the way in this effort
Mind:
I started my career in executive search in 1979 and continue to this day. I believe I have the greatest job in the world because I speak with and meet so many interesting technology executives from all over the world every day. This keeps my mind fresh and up to date with many of the latest technology and business model advances. My executive search business continues to flourish.
Soul:
I committed myself to deepen my understanding of Christianity in 2006 and continue through weekly Bible study to this day. The teachings of Jesus Christ are important to me and help keep me on the right path. We are all broken and after trying to fix me for many years realized that seeking help is not a bad thing. “Love your neighbor as you love yourself”, Christ’s second commandment is a good rule to live by.
Some of you who have read this far do not know me, I would like to know you. Maybe more importantly, if you know of anyone who is struggling with MS or any life challenge and I can be of any assistance by listening, please let me know. Paying the grace forward I’ve experienced through my ‘MS challenge’ is important and rewarding.
Thank you for your time!

7 年Hank, I wish you continued improvement. You are a great example of someone who is fully engaged in their care and sees healthy habits as enhancing your health and longevity. I wish everyone had your attitude. To many with less issues than yours just want to take a pill and sit on the couch. Thanks.
