Here are five way to become a business for good, taking impactful action to support your employees, customers, community and the planet.

#1 Review your current impact.

To make a true and authentic change to your business, it will be important to take stock of and consider all your operations, stakeholders and employees.

Of course, no business is perfect. The first step to change is identifying which areas of your business are negatively impacting the planet, your employees, or your customers.

This can take the form of implementing proper waste disposal processes to improve recycling or choosing a different supplier based on environmental criteria.

?

#2 Connect with your community.

Supporting your local community can only be a good thing - no matter how you do it.

We have found it powerful to support our community in a way that’s connected to our purpose and the value we provide as a business. That's why we support Leadership Through Sport & Business with their mentorship programmes to provide young people with the support and skills they need for a career.

Not only does this align with our purpose to create workplaces where the people and business thrive, but also provides our employees with the opportunity to share their knowledge and give back to their local community.

?

#3 Provide an amazing employee experience.

Work is a part of your life, not the other way around. That’s why it’s important to make sure that the working experience you provide your employees takes their whole lives into account.?

One way we’ve attempted to provide a balanced working experience for our people is through the 4-day week. We believe that giving our people a day back with no reduction in pay is the best benefit we can offer. It keeps our teams happy, healthy and motivated without compromising on the service we provide to our clients.?

There are many ways to provide an amazing employee experience, so keep listening to your people and challenging your business to innovate and be better each day.

#4 1% for the planet

This movement was created in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies.

Many businesses worldwide participate in 1% for the planet by contributing one percent of their annual revenue to environmental causes. This aims to prevent greenwashing, certify reputable giving and hold donors accountable.

Thousands of vetted environmental partners are available on 1% for the planet's online directory. So, whether you and people within your business are passionate about deforestation, protecting sea turtles, sustainable agriculture, or keeping the coasts clean — there's something for everyone to be passionate about.??

#5 Become B-Corp Certified

Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by B Lab to meet high standards based on their impact on their workers, customers, community and the environment.

To become B Corp certified, a company must undergo a rigorous assessment process that evaluates its social and environmental impact. The assessment covers a wide range of factors, with companies needing to score a minimum of 80 out of 200 points on the assessment to become certified.

While this is a significant commitment for your business to make, becoming B Corp certified can help you stand out in a crowded marketplace, attract new customers and improve your reputation as a socially responsible company.

Find out more about B Corps here.

The most challenging global problems cannot be solved by governments and non-profits alone. By harnessing the power of business for good, we are all capable of implementing positive change.
