Thrive - What can you expect?

The world of work, frankly life in general, has radically shifted post-Covid, and is continuing to radically shift due to long term societal changes and the rapidly changing technology eco-system - how are we adapting to this, and how can we ensure we all thrive in work and out?

This newsletter will look at those challenges:

  • AI - the impacts, the good, the bad and the ugly.
  • Authentic care and leadership – Servant Leadership
  • Team cohesion.
  • Gen Z and changing team dynamics.
  • High performing teams.
  • Personal Development and Mental Health.
  • Self Discipline and personal responsibility.
  • The interconnection between work and society
  • How we can all help those stepping in to the workplace so they can grow and thrive as we all deserve to.

This newsletter is meant for anyone who is passionate about people, teams, business and how these overlap with and impact upon the society around us.

As the cover photograph suggests I want this newsletter to come from an honest and personal place. I will endeavour to stay firmly off the fence and be brave enough to spark discussion, regardless of the fact that deep discussion does require differences in opinion.

If you would like to be a part of this discussion then please subscribe and don't be afraid to give me any feedback, good or bad!

Why listen to me? Well you shouldn't if you expect me to have all the answers or that I will always say the right thing. I don't and I won't. However, I have a deep fascination with human behaviour, society, and team dynamics. My intellectual curiosity often leads to lengthy discussions on what contributes to individual and collective success and I think those conversations are valuable for us all.

Why?

Well the most recent Gallup data on employee engagement (State of the Global Workplace: 2023 Report) showed that a mere 10% of the UK workforce are engaged, and to throw in a seemingly disconnected piece of data, UK parliamentary data shows that the proportion of persistently absent pupils from UK schools increased from 10.5% before the pandemic in 2018/19 to 22.3% in 2021/22

What at first glance seem wildly disconnected data points are, I think, symptomatic of a society that is to an impactful degree losing connection and engagement with each other, our day to day commitments, what makes us thrive as individuals and what makes us thrive as the tribe we ultimately are.

I'll leave you to contemplate those stats for now, and in future newsletters I will seek to start a conversation on solutions and how we make the world of work an empowering experience for us all and how this can have wider positive impacts.

I have kept this opener deliberately short but more detail will come as the Thrive newsletter grows.

To give you something of value before I finish have a read of:

Mindset - Dr Carol S. Dweck - A book that may well radically change your perspective and enjoyment of what you do every day.

Feel free to comment on the stats mentioned above and any book recommendations are always of great value.

Have a great week!

David

With a daughter and son both in the earlier stages of their working lives, I’m aware how different things are to when I was starting out in the mid 1980’s. Looking forward to reading more.

Great start and you've got me interested. Like you I take a great deal of interest in the human aspect of what I do and the 'why'. What motivates behaviours and the psychology of this. I look forwards to seeing where you go from here.
