A case of espionage against Greece was revealed in Rhodes island. The focus is on two Greek Muslims, one working as a secretary at the Turkish consulate in Rhodes and the other as a cook on a ferry that runs a local route to the Dodecanese islands. According to what has become known, the last one, who is remarkably from Thrace, photographed Greek warships and sent the photographic material to the consulate employee. A case was filed against the two for espionage (violation of article 148 of the Penal Code and of Law 376/1936 on security measures of fortified positions) in collaboration with the Security Directorate of Attica.
Competent sources specify that the consulate employee recruited the sailor, with the latter recording and transferring information on the movements of Greek soldiers and the movements of the Navy ships connecting Rhodes island with the island of Megisti (Kastellorizo).
A search was carried out at his home where laptops were seized, while during the interrogation by the Greek security sources he allegedly confessed his involvement in this espionage case against the Greek State. Executives of the National Intelligence Service (EYP) also participated in the investigations.
