Thrilled to be Back!

To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer. — Paul R. Ehrlich

Sometimes we all need a little break, and feel even better when we get back to doing what we love! I launched a new blog among several things, and would like to start sharing InfoSec and CyberSecurity related news. A bit of AI, ML, data science, regulations and all the details that go into security. I will be publishing a news letter once or twice a week. While I will have software and services for sale on my website, they are always optional. My goal is to bring enough value that you trust the content and recommendations first, then everything else just falls into line.

Swarmbotics: Ethical Quandaries in the Age of Autonomous Warfare

The emergence of Swarmbotics' technology represents more than just a military advancement; it's a reflection of our broader journey with AI and autonomous systems. As we've seen with the development of language models and chatbots, the path from concept to responsible implementation is complex and often unpredictable.

Will these robotic swarms become indispensable allies in protecting human life, or will they open a Pandora's box of unintended consequences? The answer likely lies in how we approach their development and deployment. This has the very real possibility of the most profound changes to conflict since the projectile.

As we navigate this new frontier, the lessons learned from other areas of AI development become invaluable. The challenges of creating coherent, context-aware AI for conversation mirror the complexities of developing autonomous swarms that can navigate the nuances of real-world scenarios.

Datacenter Sustainability: It's Not Just Electricity, it's Water

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has promised a future of technological marvels, from autonomous vehicles to real-time language translation. However, this digital renaissance comes with a less discussed but critical concern: the escalating water consumption by data centers. As AI applications surge, the demand for data processing skyrockets, leading to an unprecedented increase in water usage for cooling these digital powerhouses.

I personally live in an area where water is top of mind, writing this article felt quite personal. Stewardship of our resources is critical to our industries staying healthy.

AMD Acquiring ZT Systems

This acquisition raises critical ethical questions that demand attention. The consolidation of power may potentially stifle innovation and reduce competition in the semiconductor and AI sectors. Regulatory bodies must scrutinize this acquisition to prevent disproportionate market influence. Moreover, mergers often result in workforce restructuring, and AMD must handle this transition with transparency and empathy to mitigate job insecurity among ZT Systems employees.
