Three Years Of Operations at 1208

Last week marked three years since the 1208 Foundation began its journey. Born out of a moment of crisis, our mission remains as urgent as ever. Since August 2022, we’ve assisted over 200 people in leaving Afghanistan, offering them a chance at safety and stability. Each number represents a life and a future that’s been given hope.

In recent months, those who have followed us know that we’ve also taken on an unexpected challenge. Following the death of an NMRG member whose identity was exposed due to National Geographic's exploitive practices in its documentary Retrograde, our advocacy resulted in the unprecedented revocation of a Murrow Award. This wasn’t a moment of celebration but rather a sobering reminder of the importance of accountability. The work isn’t done: right NMRG members are still in danger, as are the widow and child of our murdered colleague. We will continue to push for justice for those impacted. Speaking of documentaries, we are happy to unveil the release of More than Brothers; a documentary from our friend Andrea von Siebenthal, which chronicles our work. We encourage everyone to watch it, in order to understand the human toll the crisis in Afghanistan has inflicted the past few, and would be grateful if it inspires any donations.

A Critical Need This Winter:

As winter sets in, the challenges in Afghanistan grow more severe. Food insecurity, extreme cold, and ongoing Taliban persecution make survival a daily struggle for many families. This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking for help in raising $20,000 for winter sustainment. Every dollar raised will directly provide food, heating, and shelter to those in need.

Your assistance can make a world of difference: $50 can purchase a winter coat.$150 can feed a family of five for a month.

We’ve always prided ourselves on efficiency: operational costs are self-funded, and volunteer contributions ensure that every dollar donated goes directly to those who need it most.

Support 1208 Here

Thank you for standing with us over these three challenging years. Your generosity fuels our mission and provides hope to those who need it most. With your support, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of over 170 families.

Until next time,

Thomas Kasza
