Three years of Motion North

Three years of Motion North

Around this time 3 years ago I got an email from Meetup asking me to step up as organiser of Motion North, a drinking event we had every now and then of like minded Designers, Motion Artists, Animators, Post Production workers and Film makers.

From a conversation at one of those early events with a few of the members we established it needed a shake up; we moved venue, put together a showcase of the regions work and we were off. Over the past year we've added in speakers talking about movie effects, top end visual effects and animation. We now have nearly 600 members. To me it feels now like we're building a community within what is still one of the smaller sections of the creative & digital world.

And now we've been invited to be a small part of Manimation, a conference of Animation taking place in November. A great opportunity for the group to head out of our underground Northern Quarter drinking hole and over to the new Home Arts centre.

I get first look of the work we put on every 2 months, a privilege to get that first peek. What I see putting it all together is how strong the work is we have in the region, how it's got stronger over that time, and what great creatives we have. I look forward to seeing where we are 3 years from now, and as ever am all ears to anyone who wants to join in or has ideas on where we are going next.

Congrats Jonny. Great achievement. How many chase up emails for work does that equate to? ;-)

Great to hear things are going so well - even better to be giving something back. Nice one.
