What trends will inform and enrich your career in 2025? ?? (hint: it's not an AI certification course).
It's building your storytelling chops to help others take positive action.
In today's "Predictions" webinar, NYU professor, entrepreneur and bestselling author Scott Galloway presented his top 2025 trends. Several aligned with what we have seen.
They included these three trends:
1. Storytelling will separate average contributors from high potential leaders. Commit to writing articles, producing helpful short videos, and presenting your ideas in front of groups to inspire them to take action. One of my clients, a former programmer, has doubled down in this area.
I've been coaching them to improve their storytelling capabilities. They regularly write pithy posts. They prepare flawlessly for board presentations. They share engaging customer stories across social platforms. One year later, their SVP career is flourishing. Their stakeholders are committed to their success, and the company revenues have soared.
2. The "Social Dilemma" of 2025? Recapturing mental wellness.
Thanks to research from NYU's Jonathan Haidt, we're seeing brave governments and school districts banning phones for children under age 16. It's about time.
We desperately need to help young people gain their adult footing. Scott (aka "Prof G") reported today that we have lost 414,000 young men to suicide between 2001-2022. He believes that young men stuck playing video games in the basement, vaping, and faking AI friendships make it worse.
Isolation and loneliness affect all ages and economic strata. I am witnessing it first hand with successful, market facing C-Suite leaders. That's why I will co-lead our 2nd "Midlife Innovator" cohort to ensure leaders facing big transitions don't go it alone. That's also why we are ramping up our 13th year hosting The Marketing Growth Leaders peer community.
3. Programming goes to the pod.
Traditional cable content channel reach and impact has plummeted. Podcasting is winning listeners quickly.
This trend impacts every company's communications and marketing strategies. Prof G and his team explains how podcasts are rapidly replacing cable consumption:
? Joe Rogan garnered 80M views when he interviewed the USA's president-elect. CNN's viewership figures hardly compare. He also showcased compelling listeners per employee figures that prove the power of podcasts:
? The Pivot podcast (with Kara Swisher and Scott) generates 45K listeners per podcast employee.
? Conversely, Fox News generates 14K listeners per employee.
? MSNBC? Only 6400 listeners per employee.
? The average age of a cable viewer hovers between 65-70. Are they your ideal customer?
Well... they might be, if you are selling restless leg remedies, senior care services, or hearing aids. Otherwise, you might re-evaluate where you are investing your brand dollars.
In lieu of radio and TV advertising, my top clients are shifting to in person gatherings, email marketing, and streaming platforms.
What new skills and habits will you cultivate in 2025? What will you quit doing? I'd love to hear from you.
P.S. A final note: Generative AI education still belongs in your 2025 budget. I included the three most popular AI learning bonuses here:?
This post was fully written by me. I did not use generative AI.
