Three topics of the week

Today I have three topics to discuss and get your feedback on:
Edge Computing: Hype or Reality?
I think the below infographic speaks for itself. Brad Kirby, COO at EDJX International, explains this much better in this article.
As edge computing becomes a reality, I find it interesting to share one more thing related to this topic: where to start.
The?Industrial IoT?has a major?problem:?batteries. Is that right?
And because connectivity and sensors are at the core of every discussion focused on Industrial IoT, I would like to bring to your attention another sensitive topic: the battery problem in IIoT solutions. This issue was raised some time ago by a startup called Everactive. I wanted to know if this was a topic of interest or concern for manufacturers, so I started a poll yesterday. You can still vote here - https://www.dhirubhai.net/feed/update/urn:li:ugcPost:6899704356258529280/. More than 100 people have already voted.
The goal here is to determine the level of manufacturers' awareness around this topic. If that's a concern and what are the alternatives to this problem??
A new platform called?Zipfox?now connects US businesses to factories in Mexico - a first of its kind
I just received this news in my inbox, and I think the idea is super interesting. By sourcing from Mexico, importers will find significantly improved costs, less risk, and shipping times up to 60 days faster than deliveries from China.
What are your two cents on this??
As always, thank you for reading this newsletter! Have a great rest of the week, and looking forward to your feedback!?

3 年Kinda crazy that Zipfox is the first platform to do this. A solution to minimize risk and shorten lead times was long overdue. Appreciate the mention!

3 年Very professional newsletter. On the 6 Reasons why Edge Computing is becoming a Reality today, I think that the last one: " ... the cloud is in the hands of just a few technology companies" is the most relevant. Low latency has always been a requirement, especially in IIoT applications. Concerning the trillions of projected devices, I believe that connecting them all to edge computing systems, especially if they are dislocated around the world would be challenging. "Rise in multi-dimensional experiences across industries" probably requires more definition and specifics in order to understand the implications. But definitely, Edge Computing is gaining more and more adepts.

3 年the mIoT Captis, tried and trusted by Sydney Water and placed in 35000 other places is a true edge device. It is given the power to monitor and log measured values, and then based on settings it has, It will determine if the host needs the current information. This leads on to the next topic, Batteries are not an issue with the Captis with most of its life spent consuming 0.00001 amps (3.6V), occasionally it will consume 0.01 amps for a few micro seconds to store logs, and then once a day ramp up to 0.1 amps for 2 minutes. Captis = epitome of capability and conservation.
