Quality is attracted to quality.
I am a strong believer in the value of quality over quantity. To build quality, you must put in the effort, stay focused, and be disciplined.
The same holds true for growing your network! One excellent way to accomplish this is to engage in high-quality conversations! However, it is not always easy, and having a game plan never hurts as well!
I wish I had understood and committed to that concept earlier in my career. Because I had a smaller network, I had always felt I was behind my peers. As many of you are aware, my experience is not limited to a single industry. As a result, connecting with someone who had been in the same industry for 20+ years was sometimes difficult. It is a "small world," as they say, and many people run in the same circles, which usually meant I was not a part of it.
That is why I developed my new LinkedIn Learning Course, "Cultivate a Global Entrepreneurial Mindset in a Remote Working World," because I wanted to share some lessons that I wish someone had told me that I needed to focus on and devote time to creating an impactful conversation. Here are three tips for building that quality conversation that I mentioned:
Create conversation starters
To begin, choose non-controversial topics to discuss. However, make sure you choose topics in which you have some knowledge and are interested in. Once you've developed a few of these conversation starters, incorporate them into your conversations. Make sure to ask pertinent questions and look for opportunities to add value. Try not to dominate the conversation with just your answers!
One example: Sharing what you've noticed in price increases due to supply chain issues or shortages in your field can be a great way to start a conversation.

Do research
As if it were an assignment, conduct research on the individual. Make an attempt to establish a baseline and see if you can deduce what the person is about. Look up the person on Google, check out their LinkedIn profile, or read any content they've written. Do they have any connections with anyone you know? People are more willing to share their professional and personal experiences when the other party understands their background. The extra effort will not be overlooked. Create engaging questions and show that you did research on them that highlights their experience an
Be a “quality” connector
So, take the information and insights from those impactful conversations and share them with your network. Try to provide quality value not only to the person with whom you just spoke to but also to other quality people in your network. If you're sending an introductory email, try to jump-start a conversation for them by sharing a couple of values or perspectives they share. Yes, you are assisting others in building quality connections, which is a good thing... But imagine if these conversations continued around you... You've just created a high-quality network that is eager to assist.
?Ultimately, the conversations become more in-depth, and you feel as if you learn something new every time!
What other methods do you use to generate high-quality conversations?
Is there a "high quality" connector in your network whom you've always admired and/or has helped?

3 年A great post! Yes, positive involvement in another's post, value addition to another's post; own post which invites views or is open-ended or being selective with whom and the areas or topics on which one would like to be connected are good ways of having a fruitful interaction on this platform. Also if one is just curious to learn something altogether new, then just browsing and imbibing matter from random posts too helps. Probably a new line of interest might develop and the connection might benefit one eventually.

3 年Very practical tips Ryan Patel to generate high quality conversations. Sincere desire to add value goes a long way. However making the other person feel respected and understood is equally important. The attention that one gives, and empathic listening during conversations are handy. Well said, "Quality attracts quality."
