Three Things I Learned From Mark Shapiro

Three Things I Learned From Mark Shapiro

This week on The Deal,?Jason Kelly?and I have the privilege of sitting down with Mark Shapiro. Currently serving as the President of Endeavor Group Holdings and President and COO of?TKO, Mark has an illustrious career marked by sealing some of the most significant deals in both sports and business. Regarded as a visionary and exceptional leader, Mark is constantly finding ways to be innovative and think outside the box. For the complete discussion, tune in to?www.bloomberg.com/the-deal?or your preferred podcast platform.

Don’t Be Afraid to Try New Things

Throughout the conversation, a recurring theme emerges: fearlessness. Mark recalls through epic storytelling, the seemingly impossible merger of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and?Endeavor-owned UFC, creating a sports and entertainment powerhouse called TKO Group Holdings. He shares the synergistic opportunity to grow post-merger. It was incredible to hear first-hand the description of how the deal came together, one that has proven to be transformative.

Your Dream Job Takes Time?

Mark’s climb from Production Assistant at ESPN to sought after C-suite executive is inspirational for anyone wanting to go to the next level. He?opens up?about the long road to success and struggles along the way. We talk about the time, patience and sheer tenacity required to keep pushing through each transition of a storied career. Mark explains how he had to submerge his ego and lean on mentors through each pivot. Through it all, hard work and his unique talent helped him fly up the ranks. Mark’s advice is to be patient yet choose an organization where the leaders identify and build future talent, promote from within, and prioritize growth and development.?

Be the Boss You Wish You Had

Getting the opportunity to talk with Mark about leadership was a highlight of our conversation. We asked ourselves the question, “What kind of boss or role model would you want for yourself?” Mark elaborates on the significant influence his past bosses had on shaping both his professional journey and his character. We have a shared belief that being an exceptional leader means leading by example, taking risks, and most importantly, inspiring those around you to be the best version of themselves.

Our conversation with Mark is one I’ll always remember. His passion and enthusiasm?is?contagious. He has his fingerprints all over modern sports media and entertainment. In short, he is a force. It’s exciting to hear about his future plans?and consider?the new heights he will reach. Don't forget to tune in to our weekly episodes of The Deal, where we delve into discussions with trailblazers in both sports and business.
