Three Steps You Can Take Right Now to Start Selling More
As a salesperson, there are only a few things that you can control. You can’t control the market trends, changes in your company or the prospect’s mood but you do have the ability to control how much you sell because, at the end of the day, that’s all that really matters.
I’ve learned that instead of worrying about the things that are out of your control, focus your mind on the things you have the ability to change. Below are a few steps that will help you, close bigger deals, stand out from your competition and sell more!
1. Break the selling pattern.
This is an essential point. If the prospect perceives you to be like the countless other salespeople they’ve met then they will immediately create an image in their head of what you’re like.
Instead of going in immediately with how you can help them with your services, establish yourself as the expert in sales and start to build that relationship. If they know that you understand your sector, they will trust you and listen to how you can benefit them.
2. Clarify your specific goals.
Many people set separate goals for their personal and professional life, but in sales, all goals are personal. Your personal goals should and will improve and drive your professional goals. Set yourself SMART goals, and write down what it is you want to achieve in the next year. Make sure these goals are written down somewhere you’ll often see them, this will frequently remind you to crush them.
S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Attainable
R – Realistic
T - Time Based.
3. Plan the first seven seconds.
Research shows that it takes only seven seconds for a prospect or complete stranger to decide whether or not to continue a conversation with you. If you don’t prepare or have a game plan for those first seven seconds, you’re leaving too much to chance and run the risk of losing the prospect. Planning in any sense is very important, but you’ll achieve a much higher success rate in continuing the conversation with prospects and potentially closing the sale.
