Three simple action steps to nurture an unwavering self-belief in your leadership capabilities.

Have you ever felt like a tiny fish in a vast ocean?

As an introverted professional, I used to feel like this and as a result felt unseen and unheard. This led to second guessing my thoughts and feelings of inadequacy.

When working with introverted professionals, I understand completely their feelings.

Whilst they secretly want to be seen and heard, they don’t want to be loud and pushy. Finding their authentic leadership style tends to be what we focus on.

Emotions can hold back introverts in their careers and in this article I share three simple yet impactful action steps to nurture an unwavering self-belief in your leadership capabilities.

There are many emotions and self-limiting beliefs that hold back the introverted professional, such as self-doubt, impostor syndrome and the fear of speaking up.

Finding the path to quiet confidence is a real priority in the workplace.

Here are the three action steps that will help you feel empowered:

  1. Understand that being an introvert is not a flaw, it's a unique trait. Your reflective nature can be a tremendous asset in decision-making, problem-solving, and building deeper connections with colleagues, clients or direct reports.Take time to appreciate your introverted qualities. You can, for example, take note of your past successes that were made possible by your calm and thoughtful approach.
  2. Cultivate your expertise. One of the most effective ways to boost self-belief is to become a true expert in what brings you joy in your field of expertise. The more you know, the more confident you'll feel. Set aside dedicated time each week for professional development. It could be reading industry journals, taking online courses, or seeking mentorship within your organization. In short, put "Me time" in your agenda to nurture these reflective moments.
  3. Practice self-advocacy.

  • Learn everything you can about your needs, strengths, and mindset. For example you can take the 16 personalities test (free and shorter version of the MBTI) or the saboteurs' assessment to understand better your self-limiting beliefs.
  • Take some "me" time to pause and reflect on your wants. This creative space will make you feel calmer and more grounded.
  • Ask for help to mentors that have already "made it" and that are joyful in the idea of supporting you in your progress. Those mentors could be inside or outside your organization. Don't limit yourself.

As an introverted professional, your path to quiet confidence may be different from your extroverted peers, but it is equally valid and valuable.?

Have a development plan. Embrace your introversion, nurture your expertise, and practice self-advocacy getting out of your comfort zone.

Over time, you'll find that with practice your negative emotions will fade away.?

Remember, your quiet strength has the power to influence and inspire.
