The three SDG goals on AMAZI’s Agenda

2030 is less than 8 years away and there’s still ground to cover before then. AMAZI works towards 3 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals aiming to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.?

The three goals on AMAZI’s Agenda are:

• Goal 5 - Gender Equality
• Goal 8 - Decent work and economic growth
• Goal 12 - Responsible consumption and production

Let’s breakdown how everything we do at AMAZI are geared towards the above.

• Goal 5 - Gender Equality

The UNDP states that “Ending all discrimination against women and girls is not only a basic human right, it’s crucial for sustainable future; it’s proven that empowering women and girls helps economic growth and development.”. Women are key players in the labour market and yet the inequalities are still the biggest boundaries holding women back economically. Not to mention the skyrocketing numbers of sexual and gender-based violence in South Africa that women are suffering with.?

AMAZI economically empowers women with beauty skills development and soft skills training in order to enable them to earn an income and be financially independent. Which is especially important when it comes to women who need a stable income after leaving a GBV situation.?

• Goal 8 - Decent work and economic growth

Our economy is recovering but with widening inequalities and not enough jobs for the growing labour force, it’s a slow recovery. The SDG goals are aimed towards enabling sustained economic growth and innovation. Job creation and entrepreneurship are key factors that encourage productive employment and decent work that has a positive impact on the economy.? AMAZI offers marginalised women in South Africa and opportunity learn and earn in Beauty. These women are supported through entrepreneurship courses and mentorship so that they would be able to manage their own micro-business.?

• Goal 12 - Responsible consumption and production

An important contributor to sustainable development is reducing our ecological footprint by looking at how we produce and consume goods and resources. Excess waste from manufacturing and overflowing landfills from non-recyclable packaging are issues that we all need to be aware of when it comes to product creation. Sustainably sourcing and managing natural resources is crucial to achieve responsible consumption and production.?
