Three Reasons You Fail To Advance In The Hiring Process When You’re Over 40

Maybe you're getting interviews, but you notice that the interviews you get aren't advancing you in the hiring process.

And you start to realize, maybe it's not enough to just get interviews, you also need to get the right interviews, and do more than other candidates to advance. You start to realize that you're not the only qualified candidate that applied ... that you compete against more qualified candidates than you thought.

Here are 3 reasons you aren't advancing in the hiring process when you're age 40, 50, or 60+:

  1. You Were Given An Interview, But Not One That Considered You To Be Hired (a poor quality interview): Only a few of the interviews given by employers are intended to consider someone for hire. Most of the interviews (the ones you're probably getting) aren't given to candidates the employer wants to hire, but are given to satisfy government demographic requirements (compliance interviews) and internal policies (comparison interviews). So these poor quality interviews are unlikely to advance.
  2. You Didn't Prove You Were Worth Higher Perceived Compensation: Employers perceive candidates in their 40s, 50s, and 60s+ have higher salary requirements (even just due to all the annual raises), so they expect more from more expensive job seekers. Unfortunately, most age 40+ candidates haven't been taught how to prove they're worth higher compensation, instead relying on qualifications/responsibilities/experience ... that make you appear average.
  3. You Applied Online: One of the reasons employers could find you more valuable as an age 40+ job seeker is the network you've built during your career. In that way, an employer isn't just hiring you, but also gains the benefit of your advisors (your network) to help you solve problems. You don't demonstrate the strength or breadth of your network when you apply online.

How can you get more high-quality interviews, stop applying online and prove that you're worth higher compensation?

The good news is that everyone can do this ... but the better news is that almost no one has been taught how. So when you learn how to overcome these 3 reasons, it helps you overcome hiring ageism and gives you a huge advantage over other job seekers.
