Three Reasons to Try Pair Testing

Learning by yourself has its benefits yet so does pairing to learn. Pairing with other testers is a valuable way to accelerate your career progression. Here are three reasons to try pair testing at your current organisation and beyond.

1. Improve your skills and knowledge???

Pair testing can help you improve your skills and knowledge. By working with another tester, you can learn new techniques, get feedback on your work, and identify areas where you could improve.

2. Stay up to date with the latest testing trends

Pair testing can help you stay up-to-date on the latest testing trends. When you pair test with someone who has different experiences than you, you can learn about new testing techniques and tools. Building up a toolkit of techniques and tools will put you in a good position to stay ahead of the curve wherever your career may take you.?

3. Reveal helpful unknowns

Regardless of their experience, pair testing can work with anyone who is up for pairing with you. This could be someone who is more experienced, less experienced or at a similar level. Before you start pairing, it’s important to set clear expectations for what you hope to achieve. This will help ensure that both parties are on the same page and that the experience is productive. It also helps to pair being open to feedback. The best bit and sometimes not-so-obvious part of pairing: everybody learns! It’s the perfect way to reveal helpful unknowns about your knowledge and skills. By being willing to teach and learn you grow as a tester and develop new testing techniques and people skills – and so do others.

Also, consider mixing a less experienced tester with an experienced one. A business-orientated tester with a technically focused one. Anything to help promote thought diversity, cross-skilling and career development.
