Three Reasons Small Business Marketing in Sydney is Essential
Whether you’re launching your freelance career or starting your own small business, if you haven’t got a marketing plan, you’re risking a very expensive mistake.
Starting a new business is costly. Before you’ve even started working, you need to pay out for a never-ending list of things – from a website and business cards, to equipment, stationary and accounting fees just setting the business up. But don’t forget about small business marketing in Sydney.
Every Business Can Reap the Rewards of a Marketing Plan
You can’t blame small business owners for trying to save everywhere they can. But all too often a marketing plan is deemed an expensive luxury that gets put on the back burner.
And that’s even if a marketing plan made your to-do list. Many small business owners assume a plan is just a necessity for bigger enterprises. But here’s the reality: every business, big or small, can benefit from a great marketing plan.
Small business marketing in Sydney is vital. A plan will help keep you on track to achieve defined business goals. It will map out every aspect of your marketing intentions for a certain period of time and will provide an essential framework to make sure your marketing activities are carried out in a way that will deliver maximum results.
Three Reasons You Need Small Business Marketing in Sydney
Here are the three key benefits of a great marketing plan.
- You’ll Build a Forward-Thinking, Focused Business
Actually taking the time to build a marketing plan means you have to sit down and really put thought into the direction your business is headed. You will have to consider essential questions about where you are right now and where you want to be. You’ll need to consider how you’re going to get there and the resources available to do so.
You’re also going to need think about the bigger picture – your customers, competitors and issues the world at large may be facing that could impact your marketplace.
If you fail to devise a marketing plan and lack awareness of your business environment, you won’t be able to plan for consumer demand changes and challenges. You’ll be left lagging behind your competitors.
- You Can Make Clearer Business Directions
By dedicating time to understanding your business and how it fits in the wider marketplace, you can make clearer decisions. When you understand your strengths and weaknesses and have an idea of the challenges that may lie ahead, you can invest resources a lot more wisely. The ability to make logical, controlled decisions will help drive the business confidently.
- You Can Integrate Long-Term Planning and Short-Term Implementation
As a small business owner, knowing just where to start with small business marketing in Sydney can be overwhelming. What can you really afford? What opportunities should you be looking at? What’s going to give you the biggest return on investment?
Devising a marketing plan gives you the chance to document all your potential marketing options and then stager them in a controlled way. This can help you better achieve your goals.
For example, you might not be in the financial position for a PR campaign during your first year, but you recognize it’s something you should do. In that case, create a three year marketing plan and earmark it as an activity in year two when you have more funds for carrying out less-costly marketing endeavors.
By integrating long-term planning and short-term implementation, you’ll feel more in control of your choices. Small businesses don’t often have pots of cash to invest in marketing, so it is essential to have well-planned, controlled, measurable strategies.
Marketing Plans and Bumpy Ridges go Hand-in-Hand
Feel like you don’t have time for a marketing plan? Have no idea where to start? Couldn’t be bothered?
These are some of the justifications many small business owners give as reasons they haven’t got a marketing plan (or sometimes even a business plan). If you want your business to flourish, you have to have strategic direction and a firm, focused plan to get you there.
Recently, I read a good analogy between a road map and marketing plans. The question the analogy raised was that you wouldn’t begin a long journey without a map, so why start a business without a marketing plan?
Without a marketing plan, you’re going to have a bumpy ride and plenty of missed opportunities along the way.
A Simple Plan is Better than Nothing
Creating a plan for small business marketing Sydney doesn’t have to be daunting. You don’t need to draw up a mammoth document. Something simple and well thought out will help keep you on track and will be readily available for you to refer to. This is far better than no plan at all.

8 年Thank you Meg. I have also experienced that a large proportion of M in SME's have no formal marketing plans and have such a scatter gun approach to this area of their business. I believe the secret for small businesses is too clearly work out what they should outsource and manage themselves. Give people in the business opportunity to upskill in areas of marketing they are interested in. David
