Three Reasons to Review Your Resume when the Clocks Change.

When was the last time you reviewed your resume?   I ask this question a lot and the answer is generally, "Not in a while."  One of the best times is when we move the hands on the clock coming on or off of Daylight Savings.  Here are three reasons why:

  1. In the fall, you should have a good idea on how your year as an employee has gone.  Hit your numbers?  Finish that big project?  Close that deal?  In the spring, you most likely have had or will have soon a performance review and having thought about your recent wins will help.
  2. It reinforces a habit of keeping both your resume and skill set current.  If years go by, you might forget your biggest accomplishments.  If you go six months and have nothing to add, be it a certification, new competency, new software, or accomplishment, you could be starting to stagnate.
  3. You never know when you'll need it.  If either an amazing job opportunity (or job loss) comes out of the blue you'll be ready.  It's better to take some time to make it great when you don't need it.

Your resume is your passport to new career adventures.  Don't let it expire.
