Three Questions Series: #5
With Denisse Groenendaal-Lopez, Learning Coordinator for the Tech and Product team at Booking.com
?? What's one thing you're most excited about around the future of work and learning?
Denisse: I think its pretty cool that nowadays data and neuroscience can help us understand how we learn and what we really need to do to learn effectively. Also, our need to up-skill and help others do so, will have to increase if we want to stay relevant given the advancements in technology and AI.
I hope this urge will make us focus on becoming better humans (soft skills, empathy, leadership) where machines cannot compete.
??What's your approach to your own learning/self-development?
Denisse: I simply follow my curiosity, set goals, keep healthy habits (both physical and mental) and enjoy what I focus on.
If it's about increasing knowledge, I prefer to do it at my own pace and time; but if it's about learning something completely new, I prefer to learn in a much structured setting and in a group.
?? What's your current favorite learning-related resource, writer/speaker, anecdote or quote?
Denisse: I have a lot, but one of my favorites is the one on my profile. "Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do" -- Goethe
It prompts me to take action on my goals and I take the 'apply' also as a ' give back' , so it prompts me to reflect on how can I help others with what I'm learning.
