??First things first
Hi there! The World Cup is nearing its end. But tbh, with all the questions on human rights, the death of migrant workers in Qatar, LGBTQ+, and women's rights violations, it′s hard to celebrate anything, so, next topic.
Do you know what are your candidate′s priorities? You should. I use to say that recruiters should learn more about modern sales and marketing, because, in the end, it′s their day to day life. How to advertise your jobs, what are your "clients" thinking, how to "sell" an opportunity (in a good way, please, guys), and how to transform your hiring strategy into an effective process? I know that folks who work in tech companies, might think this is obvious, but I tell you, the majority of the smaller companies are getting behind. Let's study guys! Cool article about sales and recruitment here.
Small piece of info, again from the latest Linkedin Global Talent Trends.
How candidates rank their priorities (as of August 2022)
#1 Compensation - Excellent compensation and benefits
#2 Balance - Organizational support to balance work and personal life
#3 Flexibility - Flexible work arrangements (i.e. when and where you work)
#4 Upskilling - Opportunities to learn new, highly desired skills
To finish, I must admit that I feel we are living in strange times, with many layoffs, war, non-sense world cup... BUT, in the other hand, I have some optimistic signs with some of our clients hiring again and expanding to new countries, some happy and nice people I′ve been meeting since I created this newsletter, and Christmas knocking on our doors again.
Let's do our part, if you are reading this, just give the next person you meet, a nice and unexpected compliment - good actions attracts good, for real, do it!

???Three Questions - Featuring?Gon?alo Sequeira?- Portuguese Leaders
0. Could you share a short bio? (just a small paragraph about you!)
Hey ?? my name is Gon?alo Sequeira ?? . I started to work in recruitment in 2013 and never stopped since then. I hired more than 500 people for companies like Mercedes-Benz.io, Feedzai and Adyen. Managed other recruiters as well and I worked in Lisbon and Amsterdam.?
This year I started my first company, Hiire, with the aim of helping tech companies to hire better with training for recruiters and hiring managers, and Re-creating their candidate experience!?
I do a couple of more things, feel free to check my content on Linkedin or ask me any questions! :)?
1. Gon?alo, we could say that you are someone very active on Linkedin, with great credibility as a talent acquisition and career specialist professional in Portugal. What do you think of the importance of personal branding for TA/HR professionals? Any advice about how to start?
Thanks for the compliments. I started my content creation in a very organic way and I believe this is the best way to do it. I believe the personal brand is critical for TA/HR nowadays. Everyone has a personal brand. If they work their PB or not is another question. Everyone can do their job, better or worse, everyone can do an interview or a performance review. But can they do it well? That is also another question.?
If you have a good personal brand you can not only showcase your skills but learn with the community that you create. You leverage your knowledge??
In the long term, it will open so many doors, it will allow you to meet so many interesting people, that is impossible to regret the decision of developing your personal brand! :)?
2. You are also connected to the ecosystem and an entrepreneur yourself. Could you share more about your journey from a corporate recruiter, working for tech companies, and now becoming an advisor for startups and creating your own company? What were the biggest challenges and learnings?
Ufa! Difficult and interesting questions. From 2013 to 2016 I was working as a typical recruiter. In 2017 I was the first recruiter of MB.io and it was a big game changer. I wasn’t ready, I didn’t have enough experience but I had enough courage. Courage to advise a huge German brand on how to hire tech talent in Portugal. I also had a lot of luck. First, they hired me, second, they trust me.?
I believe my previous experiences with MB.io helped me to be more comfortable with this step. However having the opportunity of creating a hiring strategy for +200 hired and managing an international talent team so early on, helped me to aim for more in my career.?
Helped me to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.?

After that, a lot of doors started to open.?
The biggest challenge was, and still is, saying no. Saying no to all the requests or invites that show up. I still struggle to choose what to focus on every day. But it is a great problem to have (the opposite is not good!).
One of my biggest learnings is to always aim to do your best. You don’t need to be the best. You just need to do your best every single day.?
Another learning is the importance of your network. I got a referral for MB.Io and for Adyen from 2 previous colleagues from 2 different companies. If they didn’t believe that I did a good job I would never had the opportunity to work in such great organizations.?
I believe I was always a kind of entrepreneur inside companies. This year I decided to change that and started my own business.?
Why? Because I wanted to go on my own, try my ideas, travel more and be able to help more than 1 company at the same time.?
3. You coached many talent teams so far. Could you share some of your hacks and tips for those starting their talent careers??
I have good articles about this topic that you can check for more detail in my medium. Enough of adverting!
For you to start your career in the talent area you “just” need to be curious and emphatic.
Curiosity to know everything that you won’t understand, believe me, Google will be a very good friend and you need to want to know more new things every day. Otherwise, you will stagnate very quickly.?
2nd, being empathetic is critical for being a recruiter. You need to be a good communicator but you also need to understand well what every person wants. Not only candidates but clients or team members. If you learn to listen and understand others your growth will be faster for sure.?
