Three Pet-Friendly Social Clubs Boost Animal & Human Connections

By Nienke Creemers

As reported in Catering to Pet Families , many dog owners are organising every facet of their daily routines around their pooches. Cue pup-centric social clubs that allow four-legged companions to roam and play whilst pet parents work or make (human) friends themselves.

Members-Only Doggy Play Paradise

Dog PPL , a Los Angeles social club for dogs (and humans), operates a membership-only dog park (from $120 per month). To become a member, dogs must pass a temperament test to show they can play well with others, plus be neutered and fully vaccinated. Once approved, they can enjoy obstacle courses and water play areas, including fountains and water hoses. Meanwhile, owners can relax in lounge areas, work in designated spaces with free wi-fi, enjoy the bar/café, and attend events including parties and drag performances . A team of trained dog caretakers monitor the grounds, break up any dog disputes, and clean up overlooked poops.

Hard-Working Pups & Pet Parents

Toronto-based dog social club Hound House it set to open in autumn 2024. The space will feature a co-working area, indoor dog park, pet shop and cafe. There will also be a dog daycare service. Similarly to Dog PPL, the animals will be supervised by chaperones to intervene in any conflicts and provide (outside) veterinary care if needed. Hound House will offer monthly memberships and day passes (prices yet to be announced).

Leisure for Pooches & Humans

US-based canine social club Bark Social first opened in Philadelphia in April 2023, and now boasts locations in Baltimore, Virginia and Maryland, with more in the works. Annual ($364.99) and monthly ($39.99+) memberships, alongside day passes ($10.99+), allow access to a dog-friendly clubhouse, bar, coffee shop, pet boutique, and self-serve dog washing stations. Parks are patrolled by rangers, and members can attend social events like Paint Your Pet classes and Breed Meet-Ups at up to 50% discount.
