Three-Peat

For those unaware, Super Bowl LIX is this weekend.? Our founding team is split between Patriots and Giants fans, and since neither of those teams will be anywhere near New Orleans on Sunday, we needed to find somebody else to cheer for.? We’ll admit we really wanted to eat too many buffalo wings while watching the Bills play the Lions.? We get fired up just thinking about Dan Campbell's?pre-game speech, and, seriously, who doesn’t want to see more of that Josh Allen Golden Retriever energy?
That said, we will also admit that part of us are happy that the Chiefs are in the big game.? First, we clearly want (need?) to know what Taylor Swift will be wearing and who she’ll invite to watch the game with her.? These things are important.? Second, witnessing a “Three-Peat” (the Chiefs winning a historic three back-to-back Super Bowls) would be an amazing sports feat to witness (from our couch).? Third, and perhaps most importantly, we’ve been sitting on a Weekly Thoughts piece about the Chiefs in the Super Bowl for months, and we’re psyched to finally use it.
Back in September, when the NFL season was just starting, Jason Kelce asked his brother (and Chiefs tight-end) Travis Kelce how the Chiefs were thinking about a potential “Three-Peat” in relation to their approach to the upcoming season.? Travis admitted that the team had talked about it after winning last year’s Super Bowl, but since then?it hadn’t been a topic of locker room conversation?in Kansas City.?
Jason: “So now you guys are more focused on this getting ready week one, right?”
Travis: “You don't get to the Super Bowl by thinking about winning the Super Bowl.? You get to the Super Bowl by slowly creating this routine of success week in, week out.? We have to be a better team in December, in January, and in February than we are right now.? And we know that it's a process that you have to go through.? You can't peak too soon.? You can't look that far in advance and just assume that you're going to be there.? You got to make sure that you're present every single day, and you're putting in the work and practice, you're putting in the time to get right mentally before the game.? And then on top of that, being real with yourself when you do play.? And if it's a good game, it's a bad game, always finding a way to get better.? And I think that mentality and that formula of success that Coach Reid has implemented here, I think that itself, that's what you got to focus on.? You can't focus on anything down the line like that.”
In the world of small business, there is no culminating championship.? We’re not trying to win football games.? Running a small business is a way of life.? It’s about trying to compound small wins over the long term alongside a great group of like-minded people.? Along those lines, that Chiefs mindset seems pretty darn familiar.? It’s about doing the hard work, every day, and believing in your own potential.? That sure sounds a lot like Chasing Better, one of Chenmark’s core values.? So, whether or not we get a Pat-Trick?on Sunday, we’ll be happy knowing that we’re on the right track.?

Disclaimer: We’ll also be happy if the Eagles win; we have?fond memories of our visits to Philly over the years and?it’s tough not to love the Saquon Barkley story.? We just want a good clean game!
Have a great week,
