Three orders by La. Supreme Court responding to COVID-19

The Louisiana Supreme Court has issued three orders (two yesterday and one the day before) responding to the COVID-19 emergency and Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards’s extension of the state’s stay-home order through May 15.

First, the Court has extended some of its own deadlines until May 18, 2020. Under this extension, anything that would have been due between March 12 and May 15, 2020, is now due on Monday, May 18. To download a copy of this order, follow this link.

Second, for other Louisiana courts, the supreme court has extended the restrictions on in-person proceedings through May 18, 2020. This order continues to encourage Louisiana courts to conduct proceedings by remote conferencing in lieu of in-person proceedings. To download a copy of this order, follow this link.

Finally, yesterday the supreme court modified the mandatory CLE rules for 2020 by increasing the limit on “self-study” from 4 hours to 12.5 hours. To download a copy of this order, follow this link. “Self-study” is defined by La. Supreme Court Rule XXX § 3(d) as “participation in technological transmissions, including live or prerecorded audio and/or audiovisual presentations and activities or other appropriate technology as approved by the MCLE Committee.”
