Three Keys to a Talent Optimization Strategy

It's no secret that talent is the engine that drives any successful organization. The right talent can mean the difference between success and failure, and businesses need to ensure they have the right talent in place to achieve their desired outcomes.

But do you have a talent strategy that aligns with your business goals?

It's not enough to just hire the best and brightest employees. You also need to make sure they're placed in roles where they can thrive and contribute to your company's success. That's where a talent optimization strategy comes in.

A talent optimization strategy is a plan for how you will identify, attract, develop, and retain the talent your business needs to achieve its goals. When done right, it will create a competitive advantage by being a more productive and efficient organization.

There are three key elements to a talent optimization strategy:

1. Aligning your talent strategy with your business strategy.

Your talent strategy should be aligned with your business goals. That way, you can ensure that you're hiring and developing the right talent for the right roles. For example, if your goal is to expand into new markets, you'll need talent with the skills, experience, and natural tendencies to help you navigate these new markets. This type of team will perform much differently than one designed to nurture and grow established markets.

2. Identifying the talent you need.

A key step in any talent optimization strategy is to identify the type of talent you need. This means taking a close look at your current workforce and determining where there are gaps. This includes understanding what skills and experience your employees need to be successful in their roles. Once you've identified these gaps, you can start to develop a plan for how to fill them.

3. Building a talent pipeline.

Once you know your talent needs, you can start to build a talent pipeline. This includes attracting and recruiting talent, as well as developing and retaining employees. To attract top talent, you need to have a strong employer brand and a solid onboarding plan to set up new employees for success. Create proactive short and long-term retention strategies for current staff. In addition to creating a work environment that employees enjoy and feel valued, design a development program that helps them succeed their current role. You should also consider upskilling according to your company's future talent needs, such as for new products or services.

By following these steps, you can develop a talent optimization strategy that will help your business achieve its goals. With the right talent in place, you'll be able to drive growth, innovation, and success. Implementing a talent optimization strategy can be complex, but the rewards are well worth it.

In the vast majority of businesses, it’s your people that make you win or lose. Failing to have a strategy for human resource development is pretty much the same thing as having no strategy. Investing in your people = investing in your success.

This seems simple, yet I'm not sure how often this is done. 1- add a people strategy to align with the business strategy 2- determine the best fit; the right type of person for the role (beyond the resume) 3- build bench strength
