Three key tips to make the most of online networking
Online networking is on the rise - but you can’t just jump in without a thought. Just like normal networking works better if you have a plan so does online marketing.
Choose your online network carefully to make sure it fits with your needs and business area and then head in carefully and your experience will be all the better.
Here are three key tips for making the most of your online networking experience
Take time to learn the rules and culture of the networking site
Most online networking sites have a few rules and regulations to keep things running smoothly. Most of the time these are simple things like not using bad language or sharing undesirable images. However, sometimes sites have specific rules such as business advertising only happening on certain days or have specific ways of initiating contact with other members. Check and adhere to these rules so you don’t fall foul of moderators or the network owners.
Complete your profile
Most online networks have a profile section which is your chance to show yourself to other members. Half filled profiles can be frustrating and might even lead to you missing out on potential contacts. Fill out all the sections of your profile that you can. Include details about your business and the areas that you work in. If you aren’t keen on using a personal photo see if you can upload your business logo instead or use an avatar.
Be involved
If your online network has forums or also runs a social networking page or group, then participate - comment or ask questions. If you are contacted by a member with a question about your business, make sure you reply. Build your reputation by being responsive and helpful - it could be an opportunity for work either now or in the future. Be prepared to take your networking offline and into the real world if it makes sense by arranging a face to face meeting.
If you make an effort with online networking it can bring great dividends to your business both in terms of potential new business and learning from like-minded business owners.
