So, what is a hook?

Writing high-quality content in different formats that solve a specific problem for a specific target audience is the best way to grow your personal brand and turn it into a business. Writing is also essential, since

But when you write specifically on Linkedin, the first two lines are incredibly critical because:

  1. LinkedIn displays a "See more..." link after those two lines. When your audience clicks on it, the algorithm receives a signal of engagement.
  2. These lines are the magnets that will grab your audience's attention, either to read your post or keep scrolling.
  3. Even if your post includes a photo, video, carousel or whatever, still the first 2 lines of text are the opening scene for that post.
  4. Actually, on social media, including Linkedin, no one "reads"! We skim through posts and keep scrolling.
  5. So those lines should be simple, straightforward, and catchy enough!

Here are three types of hooks

One: The "State Transition" Hook

Here, we start with a simple, short statement about a state where I was before, but now I am in another (better) state. This would raise your audience's curiosity to read more and understand both states. How is the transition from the previous one to the current better one?

Example: I started on Linkedin in 2008 (wow, pretty old!), it was a different platform than today (for sure it was!), and I used it in another way (tell me the transition, pls!)

Two: The "Golden reveal" Hook

It is a trendy, well-known statement, but you add value by promising to go into the details about how to do that!

Example: Social media marketing is crucial for startups and entrepreneurs (Quite a cliche, right?!) But no one explains how (oh yeah, I would like to learn that!) Here are five steps to follow (BANG! ??)

Three: The "Listicle Tip" Hook

Again, this is a short, simple, and straightforward tip that your audience can easily scan and consummate. If it includes several steps or a sequence of actions, add a listicle (a number!)

Example: Three steps to grow your network super fast on Linkedin (BANG! Give me that ??)
