1. A/B test your meta-titles
People tend to forget meta-titles are essentially 50% of your content to search engines. Assuming your titles are relevant to the content of your page, they are the number one reason people will chose to click on your page rather than another one when they land on the Search Engine Results Page (SERP).
It’s hard to A/B test for SEO, and a lot of companies have different teams for SEO and SEA (Search Engine Advertising, some refer to it as SEM — Search Engine Marketing). If you’re working on both, you’re in luck, SEM CTR will be your best proxy for SEO CTR. Assuming your rank in organic rankings roughly affects your CTR the same amount for all keywords, which is often the case within a given industry. If you’re not, try to work closely with your SEM team-mate(s) to get the best meta-titles.
Why it matters ? Stronger CTR usually leads to an increase in rankings, provided you’re doing everything else right it could lead to a serious bump in your trafic, and SEM will provide you with enough volume fast enough for solid improvements.
