Three great lessons I learned from my recent failure from SIH Hackathon 2019!
Long Story Short!
I was invited to mentor a group of young talented college grads from St.Joseph College of Engineering from Chennai. They got selected for their idea under hardware for Ministry of Coal. The whole event happened at IIT Kharagpur, Kolkatta between July 8th to July 12th, 2019. We weren't able to complete the coding and showcase the end product as part of a demo in front of panels. Even though everyone in the hackathon, believed that we are the winners, we lost it at the very end, due to the failure of producing the successful end product.
Lesson 1: Do not rely on resources even you know they are the strongest and reliable resources you have.
Lesson 2: Be Agile! Do not keep holding on to your initial idea, if it's not working do not wait until last minute for excuses, Kill it! if you think its not going to be completed, then come up with a new simple idea for your problem statement and proceed with it.
Lesson 3: Finish it! Its not the one who has the greatest idea wins! the one who finishes it. Result matters! I repeat "Result Matters". People love it when you have a finished product, not half cooked one.
I would love to talk about it or mentor if you are going for a hackathon. Drop me your comments below.
