Three global vectors in A.I.

Three global forces in A.I. have speed, intent and approach as the key aspects of their narratives. Which narrative will stretch ahead and further only time will tell, but its fantastic to have them all to assimilate and digest within 7 days.

The following three personalities come together as a trigger for this post:

  1. Paolo Benanti - Roman catholic attempt at controlling AI by the Pope by appointing to the Vatican an AI advisor (https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg25534031-000-the-popes-ai-adviser-on-ensuring-algorithms-respect-human-dignity/ )
  2. This Richard S. Sutton talk, where he says "There is no solution that tries to control powerful AI will work, so we should either augment our own intellects or prepare for succession." (He is one of the pioneers of reinforcement learning, a field in which he continues to lead the world.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hnt-oBA086U&t=1s
  3. Sam Altman saying "1 MAN BILLION DOLLAR" companies are not too far away. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5vsEUgxt3E ) and then asking for $7Trillion for Ai hardware development.

Anyone dealing with AI at an artificial level or as a user level and not developing AI or creating with AI or writing AI Ethics would have heard.

AI systems are increasingly being used for decisions that have significant consequences. We feel that ensuring these systems align with human values can prevent unintended negative outcomes, ensure ethical decision-making, and help to build trust and accountability.

For those that are at the core of manthan, this throws up three further aspects that we need to ask ourselves:

  1. Should AIs be forever aligned with human values?
  2. Will AIs always be treated as tools or sometimes as citizens?
  3. Do we trust our societies and civilizations—and AI—to evolve without centralized control?

While at HungryWheels i am building a real-world, touch and feel and smell and taste platform - I do ask myself these questions on where are we headed in my lifetime at least. To see what something like the #mobilerealestatepod solution at #HungryWheels would need to become in the coming decades.

If you are asking these questions too, feel free to comment.
