Whether you are aware of this fact for not, you ought to to learn about it. Since it can have a massive impact on your quality of life and your performance. As humans, we have the choice of living emotionally in 3 dimensions of time. There is the past, the present, & the future. You can live thinking, replaying and reprocessing the past, you can live planning, worrying and fantasizing about the future, finally, you can live in the precious present moment. 


Like most things in life, everything has a dialectic, there is a good way to make use of the concept of being able to live in the past, present, and future, and it can also be misused or used to cause us detriment. To help successfully navigate this concept I will share in this article, ways you can use this reality that presents itself in our lives, to be helpful and to help you forge ahead to achieve your goals, dreams, & aspirations. I will also bring to your attention the ways it can use as a detriment, and how to mitigate it.


THE PAST


THE BENEFITS


We all spend time in the past, and there is a healthy and useful reason for doing so. Some of the benefits of thinking about the past is that you can learn from mistakes. You can use the enormous knowledge you acquired in the school of hard knocks to help you navigate your present and future more effectively. You have years of information, millions of experiences, full of great information, that can be extremely helpful and practically useful to help you be more effective and efficient in navigating the future.


Additionally, the past is full of times that you had great emotional experiences, they can be recalled and utilized to prism ourselves to experience those emotions in the present. This is a concept that Tony Robbins teaches a lot. You can recall times that you felt unstoppable and get yourself into that state now. You can do the same with all emotions. You recall and fully associate with that you felt, happy, excited, confident, love, and so on, in the past. This will help you get into the state you choose to live in now. 


THE DRAWBACKS 


While your past is loaded with great memories and experiences, it equally has painful experiences that can be recalled and associated with. The past when not used effectively, and unfortunately this is very often the case, can be the reason we feel, anger, regret, guilt, and depression. We recall times that we did things we regret and experience guilt, times that others hurt us and we feel angry, and when we focus on the fact we cannot change the past it can lead to feelings of depression. Another challenge is that when we spend too much time in the past. When we live in the past, we are not focusing on the present, which is the only dimension that we have any control over. The only benefit of living in the past is to use it to improve the present, any other reason is wasting the present, by living in a dimension that we have no control over what so ever. 


THE FUTURE


THE BENEFITS 


What you conceive you can achieve, the reverse is also true, if you don’t conceive you can’t achieve. You need to have clarity as to what you want to achieve in the future. It gives the supercomputer between your ears the address of where you want it to help you move towards. The same way that you can build a new home without a set of plans, you can’t build your new future without plans. 


THE DRAWBACKS


Living too much in the future can rob you of the precious, present, moment, which is the only dimension of life, you actually have control over. It can have you living in a world of fantasy, which is, in essence, wasting time and energy, that can be used to actually to something real for yourself. Additionally, living in the future a big source of anxiety & worry. You can worry is you will live, if you will be healthy if you will have money, the worries you can stress out about are unlimited. And there is nothing you can do about there’s worries & to control the future. So, in essence, it’s a big waste of time and energy, that can be used in your real-world to make a real difference in your life.


THE PRESENT 


Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present. You have 86,400 seconds in a day. There is no putting away for tomorrow, whatever you don’t use you lose. The goals are to live in the present and to use the past and future to make the present the most efficient & effective, in order to make the best you can out of this ride we call life.
