Three Crazy Mistakes to avoid while Searching for Jobs in Dubai

Every month, tens of thousands of foreigners try their luck at getting a job in Dubai on a visit visa. However, only the luckiest of them manage to land the job of their dreams. Some of the not-so-lucky job aspirants settle down with whatever job they get and others return to their homeland upon the expiry of their visit visa.

During the job searching process in Dubai, some of the desperate job seekers do some weird things. Such stupid mistakes will not land you a job in Dubai and you will be wasting your resources and time. I have done some of the stupid things listed in this blog while desperately hunting jobs in Dubai. Let’s explore some of the Weird things People do while Searching for Jobs in Dubai:

Applying for a job you are not qualified for

Let’s accept it. We have all been there. This happens when you touch the rock bottom of job-hunting in Dubai. You will desperately apply for any job that you see on LinkedIn or Indeed when none of your job searching strategies in Dubai yields the desired result. If you are an accountant, you might apply for a digital marketing job in Dubai. When I was looking for content writing jobs in Dubai, I even applied for jobs that are remotely relevant to my CV including bartender jobs. I am sure those applications have easily landed in the trash bins at the companies I have applied for.

Applying for jobs meant for people of the opposite gender

This is the most shameless thing we might have done when we were too desperate to land any job in Dubai at any cost. In Dubai, some companies will hire individuals of specific genders for certain jobs. For example, females for a receptionist job or personal assistant job. Out of sheer desperation, male candidates may apply for jobs that are advertised for female candidates. The HR managers will not think twice about throwing such CVs into the trash bin.

Applying for jobs under the Emiratization initiative

The UAE Cabinet started implementing a decision to increase the Emiratisation rate in the private sector to 2 per cent annually for skilled jobs. The private sector companies are required to appoint UAE nationals in skilled jobs as per the Emiratisation rules. Desperate job seekers in Dubai like us may apply for such jobs even though there is zero chance of acceptance.

Outrightly lying about your achievements

In the real world, people do lie about their achievements and qualifications to get through the recruitment barriers. However, if your achievements are quantifiable, you should be able to justify all your claims in the CV with accurate numbers. For example, a digital marketing professional will be caught red-handed if he or she boosts up the SEO numbers of the website.

Share with me the crazy things you have done

Looking for a job in Dubai is a painstakingly complex process that may push you to your limits. Out of desperation, you may do things that may be considered silly by the HR managers in Dubai. Try not to lose your focus and apply for jobs that align with your qualification, experience, skills, and accomplishments.
